This month, Thomas and Sarah are back to discuss music in all shapes and forms. From electronica dance beats, to the smooth versatility of the electric guitar, secular and liturgical music, we cover the different ways human beings use songs to express emotions, stories, and sacred teachings.

Episode 7 – Stewardship of Monster Island

Thomas and Sarah are back to bring you a special live, unedited episode as we discuss the Legendary Monster-verse films, Kong Skull Island and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Join us as we discuss how the themes of the films relate to Catholic Social Teaching, mankind’s relationship to creation, and forget the names of characters from movies we just watched. Nobody watches kaiju films for the human characters anyways, right?

Episode 5 – Massive Multiplayer Crossover

On this episode of the Pop Culture Papist Podcast, Thomas and Sarah take a trip down memory lane to discuss fond memories and high expectations for the Super Smash Brothers franchise, along with their reaction to the latest news about the upcoming game, Ultimate.

It’s a funny coincidence that the latest character reveals and previews for the game were released on the Feast of All Saints, and so begins a discussion of the Holy Souls in heaven and purgatory, papal titles, why prayers for the dead are good things (and demons are bad) alongside our nostalgia for Nintendo characters beating the crap out of each other.

In this episode, Thomas and Sarah take a trip back to the past, to analyze how turn-of-the-century scientific revolutions led to the modern concept of Transhumanism. This episode, Thomas and Sarah tackle Japanese RPGs, taking a look at their world-building and settings within titles such as the Xenoblade Chronicles and Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga. Just what’s the deal with everyone trying to kill god? Why do game creators just love throwing in Greek theology terms out of the blue? And why do giant laser cannons on angelic-designed robots mechs look so cool? The answers to these questions and more are discussed within!

Join us as we examine how artists tackle the topics of excruciating hardship throughout various mediums and styles, and how Christians are called to use their own suffering to draw closer to Christ.
